Quick question: if I buy a packet of 10 stock cubes for 45p but I only use one, can I count that item as costing 5p? (Or am I overthinking this?)

Yes, but you have to do the maths (after all, if that kind of maths is good enough for a twat like J*mie Ol*ver then it's good enough for us, right?)
